SIMSEA REGIONAL SYMPOSIUM 2016

The Sustainability Initiative In the Marginal Seas of South and East Asia is a new program of the International Council for Science Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and its partners. It promotes inclusive and transdisciplinary research on the sustainability of marginal seas of South and East Asia following the design of Future Earth, the new international platform for research on global sustainability (www.futureearth.org).
The symposium will focus on sub-themes and areas of research to meet the goals of sustainable development (listed below in bold). Research topics related to each sub-theme include, but not confined to these topics, are in bullet points (see SIMSEA scope for 2015-2020, in www.simseaasiapacific.org).
Ocean health, productivity of marine ecosystems and sustainable livelihoods
Climate change and variability, weather extremes
Disaster management and adaptation in the coastal zones
Socio-ecological dynamics of sustainable use of oceans, seas and coastal resources
Coastal pollution, degradation, and biodiversity loss
Ocean policy and trans-boundary flows
Eligible session convenors will be provided with travel support (if required).
